DC, Paris, Hamburg

It's not raining this morning! DC has been getting pummeled the past week; we're due to get a break, but the water is everywhere, and we are under a state of public emergency. Last night, while driving to Alexandria, I hydroplaned on the GW Parkway. I think it scared the heck out of the cars around me, and my passenger was a touch unnerved as well. Despite this near-disaster, our summer bowling team was victorious once again.

The new SebastiAn song is awesome. Listen to "Ross Ross Ross" via myspace. Also, take a taste of Phunklarique's "High Society Cops". Very sexy for the summer.

This And That

A wrap-up from the London show.

Consuming ice cream twice in one day is cause for concern.

My home country is going to Hell, and quickly.

I tried to ride the wave, but I ended up with pebbles in the lining of my swim suit.

Back At The Ranch

Swamp ass wet. That's what greeted me upon deplaning at Dulles today. Riding the moon buggy from the plane to customs terminal, it was a total washout. Riding from the airport to the ranch with W, there were rain-outs on the freeway. Thankfully, my house is fine. All my bags arrived with me. I have leftover meat loaf. I'm staying in for the night.

The rest of the UK dates went very well. I can't remember having so many very good-to-excellent acoustic shows in a row. Manchester and Edinburgh were both great fun, and Leeds was fine for what it was - a giant outdoor concert. I ran into some old friends who were also playing yesterday's festival. I did not stay to see The Who - weather was looking ominous, and I needed some sleep before getting on the plane this morning. Thanks to my buddy Mark for being such a helpful and fun travel companion.

Side notes: Manchester was filled with transvestites, and Edinburgh had an overnight breast cancer marathon. Also: the straight men in Scotland are very handsome.

In closing (I'm beat): I'll bet most everyone has seen this already.

On The Road Again

Greetings from Manchester. I haven't posted in a good while; between beach time and touring, I've been away from the computer. The UK shows are going well. London festival was fine, a quick set, lots of celebrities backstage. Last night was Birmingham, and my performance was quite good.

I was at the beach last weekend, and the weather was perfect. Good company, dining, beach time. I applied plenty of suntan lotion this time around.

A few days ago, this blog passed the one million page views mark. Thanks to everyone who stays in touch. More later. Batteries are running low.

Pride Weekend In Review

Before I describe the great fun that was this past weekend, I have to make mention of an unfortunate incident that occurred a few days ago in NYC. Best wishes to Kevin Aviance for a speedy recovery. With NYC Pride coming up in two weeks, I hope the perpetrators of this crime are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law; anything less might send an uncertain signal to the LGBT community.

This past weekend was Capital Pride, and the weather was beautiful. Mostly sunny, breezy, cool temperatures - perfect for running around with friends and acquaintances.

Thursday night, SMDF. A big crowd turned out, and as the night went on, the entertainment ranged from porn stars on pool tables to Best Tattoo contests. A bud asked me if I was going to show off my ink - I told him, "Pal, I don't even have a pen!".

Friday, WOOF, which I did not attend. I know, missing my weekly happy hour is very unlike me, but a friend was hosting a large party at his home, and I opted to assist with the staging and preparation. Lots of usual suspects at the party, as well as many folks I've seen around town, but have never met. (I'm getting better with my social anxiety and shyness around strangers). 8 hours later, after much reverie and eating, I fell into bed for a short nap.

Saturday was the beginning of the blur. Breakfast with the guys, then back to the ranch for final music preparation. Tom hosted his peeps for a pre-parade mixer; his new crib is literally in the middle of the parade route. We all watched the parade from the front windows of Halo, where much hilarity was on tap.

BLOWOFF was great great fun! A huge turnout, big smiles on faces all night long. People loved the live set, and now that everyone has downloaded "Hormone Love", they sing along. After a long night, one would think some sleep would be in order - no way. It's time for a home cooked breakfast at the ranch. I hadn't seen the sun come up in ages - the good company and food made it more than worthwhile.

After a few hours, it's time to rise and head to the festival. Last year, I performed in 95 degree swampiness; this year, I strolled through the festival as cool as a cucumber. The festival is a great example of the diversity of our community, and serves as a great way to meet and greet acquaintances, old and new. After a fashion, we headed to a friend's 40th birthday party. Much hospitality and fine feasting was provided by the host, and after some pool side chatting and chewing, the evening began to wind down. A walk through the 'hood, and it's time to fall into bed, bringing a close to a great weekend.

I am so fortunate to have a great group of people in my life. We all bring a little something to the party, and because of that, my life becomes a constant celebration. PS - I'll post pictures and movies once I get signed clearances from everyone!

Let The Downloading Begin

Thanks to the fine folks at Pitchfork for running this article / tease about the upcoming BLOWOFF album. We're all set for the September 5 release. If you haven't been over to the BLOWOFF site lately, you might want to stop by and sample the first track off the album. All the kids are doing it this morning! Thanks to Kip and Sioux Z at Magnum PR for being on board, as we kick off the pre-release hype for the album.

There are tour dates as well. We'll be bringing BLOWOFF to the Great Northwest in August. First stop: Homo A GoGo festival, Olympia WA, Saturday August 5. Of course, tomorrow's DC event is the talk of the town - and beyond. There are people who have been coming from NYC to SC, and points in between, for the parties. Tomorrow is also Camera Night! Bring a still or video camera, point and shoot, and all we ask is that you share the results with us. We're gathering images to help spread the word about BLOWOFF. If you're not planning to shoot, at least wear a nice T-shirt - for the little bit you'll be wearing it!

The weekend has begun. I was out late again last night. Self-promoting is hard work.

UPDATE: Thanks for all the positive feedback on the BLOWOFF track. The mail box is on fire! Also, I forgot to plug tomorrow evening's Queering Sound at Warehouse Next Door. Lots of great sound and visuals to be found at this event.

Here's an encouraging sign of progress in our humble burg. (First spotted at DCist.) The comments at DCist are spot on: this town's cab system is terrible, especially when held up against NYC. I don't like comparing the two towns, but I have been hoping for the metered system for some time. I don't take many cabs, but when I do, I never know what the fare will be. I mean, look at this nonsense. Try that shit out at 3 AM on a weekend night , especially if you're a tourist, and you've been partying down at BLOWOFF all night.

Speaking of, I took a taxi to Georgetown last night. Destination: The Da Vinci Code (SPOILER ALERT). It's not getting the best reviews (SPOILER ALERT). I thought the production itself was quite nice - some of the effects were beautiful. The story - whatever, it's fiction. (I did not read the book. That makes three of us in the entire Western world.) It didn't change how I feel about religion. The Church will outlive all formats of the home release of the movie. Opus Dei video on corporal mortification. Should I feel strange about having seen this movie on 6-6-06? The Omen was playing in the next room.

Upcoming Events, Weekend In Review

Bob Mould Band. Sunday, July 16. Penn's Landing, Great Plaza, Philadelphia PA. Festival event, billed second from the top (Flaming Lips are headliner). That's all I know for now.

Writing for the new album is going well. I've been listening to lots of new music, which keeps me inspired and excited about my work. BLOWOFF this Saturday. It will be the biggest event in the 3.5 year history of our little party - it's not so little any more.

- - - - - - - - - -

Thursday, a long, long night of bar hopping. SMDF, Eagle, Duplex, and a 2 AM breakfast. At my age, it takes a while to recover from nights like this one - and I don't drink!

Friday, lots of office work. The BLOWOFF album is now in production stage. We've started a new label for this release: Full Frequency Music. The release is set for September. We are very excited about the album; it's been a long time in the works. It's a blast to work with Rich on original music (see end of post for limited edition track), and I hope that people give the new album the attention we think it deserves. Later on, dinner at the gym, a guest cameo at WOOF, and a fabulous birthday party at plan b. Early to bed, still recovering from the previous night.

Saturday, lots of early morning writing! Brunch with Clickboo and the real rock stars at The Diner, then bowling at Strike Bethesda. I have pocket video, but Tom won't allow me to post it. (He's a good bowler.) Evening recap: hang time with the rock stars, including X-Men: The Last Stand. What a fun film. Wolverine was hot until Juggernaut appeared on the screen. 'Nuff said. Off to Remington's for some karaoke. Mr. Bartender is going to find "my song", and when he does, I will do karaoke for the first time in my life. No, it's not one of my own songs. I've sung said song in public before, but never as karaoke. One last stop, and again, I'm out past my bed time.

Sunday, more work in the studio. Evening time: the grilling tradition continues. Buffalo burgers, chicken sausage, broccoli, tater tots (always a hit with the men), and tiramisu. I had a half slice, due to my diabetes. KIDDING - it's a joke. Good food, great company, and riotous conversation on a beautiful June evening - the perfect end to the weekend.

Everyone Loves A Short Week

Summer is here. 90+ degrees every day for three days. High humidity. I'm taking my shirt off. Watch this. At least I'm writing a lot of music.
