Myspace Controversy
Someone in the UK has created a spoof myspace page. As flattered as I am, it appears the person who created this unauthorized account is now pretending to be me. Sorry to break you the news, but it is not me.
If you were misled into signing up as a friend of "bobmouldmusic", I would suggest you "de-friend" yourself. To the person who did this: what were you thinking? I'm sure you meant well, but what exactly were you thinking? The myspace police are two days away. Sorry to be a prick, but you're interfering with the goodwill and trust I've built up with my audience.
So you know: I've been homesteading my own space for quite a while - feel free to join up!

Slightly Overweight Homosexual
BLOWOFF live performances, with DJ sets.
Saturday, August 5 - Homo A GoGo, Olympia WA - buy tickets
Sunday, August 6 - Doug Fir, Portland OR - buy tickets
Strange: we only have 2900 visits at myspace, but almost 100,000 unique views to the download page.

In the wake of the disclosure by Lance Bass, and the sitcom pilot he and his partner are developing, I come to learn there's an outing stylebook (via Queerty). I like the folks at NLGJA, and I believe the definitions they offer are important. I respectfully reserve the right, however, to use the term homosexual when describing myself. By the way: you can call me Ace Gear, but don't call me Abigail! Keep reading for more history and humor.

The weekend was fun, but one big blur. My short-term memory is terrible these days, I think it's heat-related. I do remember BLOWOFF on Saturday night, and a bunch of people at my dining room table at 5 AM. I've started running again as well. It needs to be done; I'm getting a little too heavyweight for my own good. I don't care what others think - I'm the one that has to drag the carcass around. I, I, I.

The First Review
Working For The Weekend In Review
Life has been hectic and wonderful. I only wish it would cool down a few degrees.
Wednesday night, dinner at Logan Tavern and a nightcap at Halo. Lots of kookiness happening at the bar, including me getting my chest pounded by a bud (in good fun - I'm a big guy), and a cosmo spilling tragedy (did not involve me - but happened right next to me).
Thursday, SMDF. Spent some time chatting with Copperred and Mr. Bartender. Jon informed me that my karaoke song is now in the library at Remington's. Oh boy - now I have to put out, or at the least, put up; I am a karaoke virgin. Maybe I can talk Tom into singing something as well.
Friday, WOOF, followed by a last-minute invite to dinner at Regent.
Saturday, breakfast with the gang. Band rehearsal (which went quite well), and an evening grill at the ranch.
Sunday, the Philadelphia show. It was very hot (120 degrees on the pavement at 4 PM), and the stage was quite warm at 7 PM. We had a fun time, a little rusty, but it all came back quickly. Thanks to everyone who gave us a very hearty round of applause at the end of the set. Flaming Lips were great fun, as always. Super nice guys as well. After the show, Ed took us out to dinner at Valanni. Philadelphia is one of the great restaurant towns in the US. If you're a serious foodie, it's worth a weekend trip.
Monday, Rich and I drove to NYC for a busy day of BLOWOFF interviews and photo shoots. Watch for upcoming spreads in Urb, Big Shot, and Billboard. Dinner at elmo, a nightcap at View Bar (I paid 3 bucks to get in), and a quick drive back to the 202.

Look, honey, the gays are vacationing here. What will happen? Maybe this Daily Show segment will put it all in proper perspective. And there's that darn song again! Watch the credits at the end.

This is a hilarious soundbite. There's nothing worse than being late for an interview.

Hot And Humid
The heat and humidity are here, as is the expected spike in crime. I always have my eyes open when walking alone in DC; tourists, on the other hand, are obvious targets. It's a sad reality, I suppose. I hope the DC Police are able to beef up their presence for the rest of the Summer.
Equally unsettling is the story titled "Prize offered to whoever kills gay person". August 10, WorldPride Parade in Jerusalem - not sure what will happen.
Wow, there's two bleak tales in a row. In lighter news, our Tuesday night bowling team is doing really well this season. Yes, we are actually called "Animals Are Tops!", and no, we don't wear matching sweatbands. Don't forget the exclamation point.

Weekend In Review
Lather, rinse, repeat. Life is in a deep groove these days - a good one. All feet face forward. Summer in DC = if you see a bud early in the weekend, odds are you will you see him all weekend long. Locals only, July 22 in the basement. More on that later.
Highly recommended: "Grief", by Andrew Holleran. Very DC-centric, but quite applicable elsewhere.
Congratulations to Alex. Read about his book here.
Thursday night, SMDF, followed by a nightcap at the Eagle.
Friday, the first big BLOWOFF press day. Reaction to the album is universally good, which is a nice relief for me. Headed to WOOF, followed by dinner at Duplex and a nightcap at Logan Tavern.
Saturday, a long social day. Target, the gym, dinner with Clickboo and James, Remington's for some two-step watching, and a too-late nightcap.
Sunday, a full-on shopping day with Shawn (who loves to spend my money) in suburban Virginia. Poppa's got a brand new Barcalounger. Lots of good eats as well: my favorite local burger, and a great grill later in the evening. Stopped into JR's for the fifth time in my life, which caused many people to scream "what the f*** are you doing here?" Translation: it's a drinking bar, and I don't drink. It was like being in a different city, in a way - a fun change of pace.

Holiday Weekend In Review
I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend. For the past five days, I've been alternating between yard work and the studio. Both yards look incredible, and the writing and recording has been equally rewarding. Nights, naturally, are generally reserved for fun and friends.
Thursday night, the guys were out in force at SMDF. Ditto for Friday night at WOOF. It seemed for every regular that was out of town, a visitor appeared.
Saturday, brunch with the guys. Our usual haunt was overrun with World Cup aficionados who stayed in their seats and drank the day away, so we ended up at a restaurant a few doors down - they had plenty of seating. Note to self: wait the extra few minutes for the proven winner. I attended the opening at Transformer, and was impressed with the new work of Lisa Marie Thalhammer. If you live in the 202, I suggest you take a moment to view the work in person. Saturday night, a lovely dinner party for four. Good company and conversation, recollections of hilarious moments at Pride last month, and a tasty meal.
Sunday, we went to Rich and Nick's place for an awesome grill. Lots of the music heads were there, including Pat (BLOWOFF art guru). It's always fun to get together with this group of guys, we spend hours rambling on and on about music. It's a cool thing, talking about work-related stuff, but never does it feel like talking about work. I am so lucky!
Monday and Tuesday, lots of studio time. Tuesday, a stray baby bird appeared at my back gate, waiting for food. I hope it survives. Last night, I got up on my roof and watched the fireworks at the Mall. With the Scottish Rite Temple in the foreground, it was a spectacular site. Smoke trails wafted up from the Mall, over the temple, and straight over my head. Packs of birds were barreling away from the site, and heat lightning was visible alongside the man-made explosions. I was going to post some video, but they were somehow corrupted. Naturally, I attribute this to Mercury Retrograde. It's time to back up all the hard drives.

If you're in Rehoboth this week or weekend, stop by Cloud 9 and see my buddy Bill's paintings. The show is up for another few days. And, my bud Scott has a new show up at Detail. Check his blog for details.

Fireworks, Soon
So, just after 10 p.m. one Friday night in Miami, superproducer Scott Storch is on his way to work, driving to the Hit Factory Miami in his white convertible Lamborghini, slicing down the freeway doing eighty, totally stoned.
I am so in the wrong business! First spotted at Coolfer, who gave the BLOWOFF track a nice mention a few weeks ago.
If you thought the Oozinator or the Daddle were the least bit wrong, you haven't lived until you watch one of the videos for the Power Sex chair. These videos are physically graphic, yet somehow quaint; notice how the director's notes enter and exit from the left of the screen. Also, the motel set is charming, but it's likely a real motel. Which is where I would want to bring my chair. "Can I have a ground floor room, please? The chair is so heavy."
Some of the funniest comments I've read in some time can be found at Stereogum. Indie rage is alive and well. My favorite: poor people don't like indie music. They like food and crack. That says it all.
No big plans for the weekend. Watching the grass grow, dinner parties, maybe some two stepping. There's an art opening in the 'hood, and since the artist talks about one of my favorite buildings, I feel obliged to attend. I won't tell him what REALLY goes on in there. Writing has been going quite well as of late - I'm very happy with the direction of the new material. DVD update: it's almost finished. I will have more news about the release date in the next few weeks. The BLOWOFF album is September 5. We will be taking pre-orders momentarily. If you download it ahead of time, please plan to buy a copy as well. It's the way we keep the lights turned on.
