Weekend In Review
Buy the BLOWOFF album - physical or digital. So far, everyone has given it the thumbs up. Apparently, it has way more guitars than expected. Thanks for all the positive feedback. We've also added another show: live performance only.
Sunday, September 24: San Francisco, CA, Folsom Street Fair

On the personal front, I've been lame - several unanswered phone calls and e-mails. Soon.
Thursday, boys night out with W: SMDF (packed) and Eagle (not bad). A late night, but not as late as other times.
Friday, I renewed my Costco membership, as I was in search of a new television. I don't watch much TV, but I do watch a fair amount of DVDs - especially this one. WOOF (beyond packed), then Halo (brief).
Saturday, some much-needed culture. National Gallery for the Venetian Renaissance exhibit (and a tasty sandwich in the new foodcourt atrium), then the Hirshhorn; Anselm Kiefer is one of my top 5 artists of all time. Halo again (for a moment), then home to grill and sleep.
Sunday, brunch with M and Tom. Outside Starbucks Clarendon, there was a very Valley Of The Dolls crime scene.
Our neighborhood Caribou was much calmer. That evening, a wonderful dinner hosted by P. Witness the giant pork loin.

Monday, I pulled the trigger, and bought the new TV. It's insanely big.

Lots of questions about the Bob Mould Band live DVD. It's finished, and I'm looking for proper retail distribution (which is the bane of existence in our business at the moment). No confirmed release date.

Wave The Flag
A new banner. It was WAY overdue. More to come.

Tuesday, August 16, 9:30 Club. Rollins Band was a loud, physical experience. Henry keeps on keeping on in his own uncompromising way, and that's why I have respect for him. X were fun as can be - lots of songs from the first two albums. An older person fell (out of the balcony?) during the set, creating a loud and palpable thud. Seeing a reflective puddle around the still form, I ran to grab a paramedic. Upon leaving the club, I saw the person standing and talking, albeit very slowly. Punk's not dead.

What If....
What if 9/11 never happened? A series of commentaries in New York magazine.
I find myself reading Andrew Sullivan's version over and over. There's something quite fascinating about it; the political landscape is fully, and realistically, explored. I find myself contemplating two things: the current reality is horrible, and this "option" wouldn't have been much better. Should my reaction lessen the criticism I deal the current administration?
Others of note: Thomas L. Friedman, Tony Harris and Brian K. Vaughan.
I'll be back in a bit with more thoughts, and comments on last night's Rollins Band / X show at the 9:30 Club.

Hometown News
Neighborhoods and AIDS fatigue: both articles from the Post.
I wish the article about Dupont would have touched on (what I perceive to be) the chain reaction typically created by chain store gentrification:
Chain stores move in, driving out local business.
Chain store employees have no vested interest in the business, or the neighborhood.
When the employees have no vested interest in the neighborhood, they don't care what happens outside the store.
Homeless people congregate in front of chain store businesses (in Dupont and Logan Circles).
People eventually stop coming to the neighborhood.
Chain store profits dry up, and they move on to the next location.
The neighborhood is derelict.

No Fun At The Airport, Anytime Soon
I finally made it home on Tuesday evening. My flight landed at 3 PM, and I waited another 2.5 hours for my guitar to arrive (it was on the next flight). No time to decompress, as the guys were coming over for some grilling and chilling. My new steak knives are incredible!
I'm flying again next weekend, and am hoping the new airport procedures will not cause massive delays.

Fun At The Airport, Part Two
Greetings from Denver airport. Yesterday was a long and disjointed travel day, and at the end of it, I ended up in Denver without my personal effects. Fortunately, my buddy Eryk met me at the airport, and got me set up with a lovely meal.
All the time in the airport system reminds me of my days at WCW. I ftypically lew 5 times a week: mostly commercial, some private. The constant travel is odd; you become accustomed to breathing artificially hyped air, moving sidewalks, shuttle vehicles, all that stuff. There was a guy in line yesterday who had flown 30,000 in the last 10 days, or so he said to whoever was on the other end of his phone. Perhaps he saw it as a badge of honor; I remember the feeling - it's very disorienting.
I was planning to go to the beach tonight, but I am a little beat up from the stop / start travel of the last 24 hours.

Fun At The Airport
Greetings from PDX. I have free Wi-Fi, and some spare time. Due partially to the situation at LAX, I am delayed in the airport system. It looks like an overnight stay in Denver might be in my immediate future.

Thanks to everyone who attended last weekend's performances in Olympia and Portland. It was nice to see my pal John; I look forward to seeing his new film project. Lots of fun performers in Olympia - it was a great festival. Portland was an intimate affair, and yes, the shirts did come off for a while. I hope we're able to come back to Portland in the near future.

The Comeback is now available on DVD. Great stuff.

Guitars And Stars
I'm looking forward to this weekend's BLOWOFF performances. It will also be the debut of my newest guitar, the Line6 Variax 600. I've been using their acoustic version this year, and I have to say: for some touring applications, they're quite useful. The main reason: the ability to store alternate tunings in the emulator section. If you're a working player, you know what I'm saying. There are no substitutes for the special guitars, but these models complement the collection.
Nice to see Silversun Pickups, one of my favorite bands of the past year, getting some well-deserved attention. This review at Popmatters should help their cause. I will be in Portland this Sunday night, so I will not be able to see them perform live in DC. File under recommended listening.
My buddy Mark has penned a great article on the George Michael situation(s). It can also be found at Out.com, where 9 of the last 10 "Hot Guys of the Day" have no body hair above the navel. Number 10 appears to be doing some manscaping.
While you're at it, take a gander at this South Park excerpt at Andrew's blog.
It's only going to reach 99 degrees in DC today - thankfully.

This And That
Thanks to everyone who has signed up at the myspace page. I appreciate the kind comments, and the personal notes are very touching.
WOOF on Friday night = crazy wet underwear contest. I know the first, second, and third place contestants, so i couldn't be too partisan. Saturday, a good workout with a bud, and a nice art opening that evening at Pulp. Fired up the grill on Sunday night, and had a great time with the guys. Took a quick trip to NYC and back on Monday. BLOWOFF shows in the Northwest this weekend. The weather has been rough everywhere, but take a gander at this desktop grab from my WeatherPop. I'm not leaving the house tomorrow.

Here's some great pro wrestling footage from Memphis, which aired on a local network affiliate, in 1979. Things have changed, but the idea is still the same.
