Changes

Due to a family emergency that began last Tuesday, I've fallen behind on the blogging and correspondence. Posts will be sporadic for the next few weeks. The recording session for the next album is rescheduled for late October, which also affects the planned March 2007 release date.

The only thing that's still on the books for the next few weeks is this Sunday afternoon's BLOWOFF live performance in San Francisco.

BLOWOFF Tonight, Last Weekend

BLOWOFF tonight. Great poster by Pat. See you at 11 PM. DJ sets only - no performance. Thanks ot everyone for the kind words and comments about the album.

I had planned to post this on Tuesday morning, but was taken away from my normal life for the past four days.

Thursday night, SMDF. Due to issues of national security, I can neither post pictures nor divulge the name of the winner of that evening's "contest". Had I entered, I might have ended up with silver or bronze.

Friday, WOOF. The bar is undergoing a major face lift; the traffic flow is much better now that the narrow balcony has been removed. The final episodes of The Comeback were brilliant. The whole season was brilliant.

Saturday, breakfast with the rock stars, followed by coffee, a yard sale, an open house, and a good workout. Remington's was fairly quiet - all the rodeo guys were at a hotel ballroom for the "official dance". No karaoke from me (yet), but my billiard skills are coming back.

Sunday, a fun morning and brunch. Off to the Circle for people watching, which was sort of gross at times. A wonderful home cooked meal later in the evening, and the plan to see Snow Patrol evaporated as the food coma / YouTube watching took over. What can I say? I'm getting older; a quiet night of relaxation was needed.

Monday was day one of tracking drums for the new album. Brendan is doing a great job, and the sounds at the studio are awesome. We're two songs in, and (knock wood) everything is moving forward.

Today is Election Day. I have to vote this afternoon. Back to the studio tonight.

There were many other folks weaving in and out of last weekend's NYC trip; some without blogs, some with blogs I haven't had the pleasure of reading (yet). It sounds like most of these folks will be in DC next Saturday (16) for the BLOWOFF album release party. Speaking of omissions, I forgot to plug the Nasty Pig blog and store. How silly of me.

I hope everyone is enjoying the Labor Day weekend. Ernesto's rains blew through DC, and the sun has reappeared. I'm heading out of town tomorrow morning - a short road trip. It feels like Summer is over. That's OK by me. Speaking of almost over: on the way to Jackie's last night for supper, I narrowly missed being involved in a potentially wicked car accident with a clueless cab. (Taxi drivers are particularly terrible in DC.) I still don't know how I got out of it; it was one of those times where everyone in the vehicle was resigned to a wreck, and we came out on the other side wondering how we avoided hitting something. Neither wind, nor rain, nor clueless cabbie could keep the hungry rock stars from their bone-in pork chops, flat iron steak, and turbot!

Maybe it's time for the YouTube awards!

30 years later, these Ramones videos still give me the chills. Did anyone get the chills on Thursday night? Maybe while opening the refrigerator door to get another snack. I have to chuckle when I hear things like "The Killers: the new U2?". No offense to them, but will they endure like the Ramones? Very few acts bring true meaning to the stage these days; is it a result of the Internet-fueled short attention span of today, or a dearth of truly original ideas?

Old School Wrestling Promos

Two examples of how to tell the story, both from (I think) the late 1970's. The common thread here is the late Ernie Roth, who worked as Abdullah Farouk in Detroit, and as The Grand Wizard for the WWWF (now WWE). The first interview is insane, with Roth (who was Jewish) playing perfectly off of Creatchman's overtly political rant (remember, this is from the late 1970's). The second video is a gem, with Superstar Billy Graham laying it out for the TV audience, as a young Vince McMahon holds the stick. Great psychology in the interview; note how they hammer home the "chant of Crazy Luke doesn't bother him any more" bit. What do you think people did, after hearing that? Of course. Classic stuff.
