Vacation Bound

This here blog is about to surpass the one million visits mark. This morning, the count was at 998,819 total visits. I won't be near the computer to see it, however; I'm off to the beach! I'm heading out very shortly. Here's some fun links from the past week. Enjoy. I'll have a Summer disco podcast for you next week.

Bill Maher on Jerry Falwell.

Can you pick the synthetic orchestra?

This week's City Paper column.

A nice mention by Denver Post.

He looks like a Bob.

This is rather funny.

Weekend In Review

Last Wednesday, I spent the afternoon at Artomatic. It's a great event for new, emerging, and established artists in the DC area. Two full floors of a large office building in Crystal City - that's a lot of art to take in at once. Personal favorites included Eric Petersen, Brie Husted, Dale Hunt, Sergio Olivos M., and Christine Mosley.

Thursday, SMDF. A good time with the guys. I think the pleasant May weather is amping up the fun factor.

Friday, recording (a cover song) for possible TV use, followed by WOOF. With Micheal, Clickboo, Ruphus and BigMoDaddy, Mr. Fluffy and Richie, and lots of other non-blogging buds in the house, a sexy furry time was had by all. After the legal limit of good clean fun, we headed back to the ranch for chicken stew.

Saturday, breakfast with the crew. Mid City Artists held their Open Studios walking tour, and we dropped in for some local color. We stopped by plan b, and previewed the new art before that evening's opening. A quiet evening by the grill.

Sunday, more art walking, including a stop at Scott's studio. He has been on a tear lately, great stuff, international shows. He and Pat are part of a show opening June 30 - can't wait to see it. More walking, more Whole Foods steam tray / salad bar lunch, a spell in the Circle, and back to the grill for a wonderful Sunday evening supper.

Weekends In Review

Two Fridays ago, Arcade Fire at Constitution Hall. Great show. I'm a hard one to please, when it comes to live music. Arcade Fire's success is no fluke; they are one of the few bands who are "that much better" in the live setting. It's easy for an artist to sound great when recording; technology can do wonders. Connecting with, and making believers of, 3600 people is no easy feat. A good review of the show can be found at the Post.

Cinco De Mayo does not mean Underwear Night at the Lantern. Photos can be found at MW. End of conversation.

Sunday the 6th, a great housewarming / cookout at the new home of two of my closest friends.

Monday, started training with a new workout partner. Tuesday, coffee at Savory with Rich. We've both been busy lately, so it was good to get caught up. Thursday, Ben Gibbard was in town for two solo shows at 9:30 Club. We have the same management company; Jordan was in town for the show, so there was business to be done during the day. Another heavy workout, and I also managed to sneak down to SMDF before Ben's late show. Very fun show; the early one was recorded and broadcast by NPR. Fun hanging out with the rock folks, but they all stay up so late! Friday, met up with Brendan and Cristof for lunch. DVD update: it will be released no later than October 31, 2007. Full details are imminent. It will be worth the wait. A quick stop at WOOF, and an early night.

Saturday, breakfast with the gang. Off to the gym to do shoulders, which is my weakest body part. The combination of middle age, small moving parts, and the guitarist's lurch (repetitive stress) makes it a hard time. Afternoon work, disco nap, then off to BLOWOFF. One of the best nights EVER. A huge thunderstorm passed through town earlier in the evening, so the air was fresh and charged. The room was buzzing with all kinds of positive energy, frisky behavior, and ear-to-ear smiles. Nick was creating some intense live video, the club lights were spot on, and the new mixer sounds light years better than the old board. My new tracks included the SebastiAn remix of I Still Remember by Bloc Party, and (AUDIO ALERT) Feels Like Home by Meck (featuring Dino).

Sunday, a gorgeous day to walk, run errands, and drink coffee on the sidewalk. Later, we all retired to the ranch for a big grill. Everyone tried on the leftover hat. Who do you think wears it best?

Speaking of wearing it best, this photo posted by the fine folks at Nasty Pig. It's probably best they did not upload the shot of me trying on swim trunks, while wearing black socks and shoes. At least it wasn't underwear with black socks and shoes.

Babies, Cubs, Bears, Men

This week's Ask Bob is a fun one. Check it out.

Knut is getting less cute. All cubs eventually turn into bears.

BLOWOFF next Saturday, May 12. Another awesome poster by Pat.
