Press And Sleep

Three stars? I thought it was on the way to a four-star show until the AC kicked on....good review, though.

Two articles about the festival.

The new Low album is great. Check out the sample of "Monkey" then buy it.

I am tired - after a long and productive week in the studio. As of today, everything is still on schedule.

Weekend In Review

Check out the Burn To Shine DVD, which is released tomorrow. Here's an article that ran in yesterday's Post. (I play a song, solo acoustic, at the end of the session.)

Fun time this past weekend. Friday, the Annapolis show; sold out, great crowd, lots of old school punker types yelling out songs I've not thought about in years. A good set, and a quick drive home for last call with some buds. Saturday, the snow fell, and the city slowed to a quiet crawl. The snow dampens the reverberation of the city, except for the sound of shovel on sidewalk. Plenty of lazy time around the house, and then off to the club for the two year anniversary of BLOWOFF. Rich has some thoughts about it, and I would concur with everything he said. It's been a great start, and I hope we can keep it fresh and exciting for some time to come. This particular installment was a "locals only" night - if you could walk, you were there. Tons of new rock stuff, a few new dance tracks, great sets all night long. Sunday was a complete chill day for me, in preparation for this week's sessions in Maryland.

I'll be back at the end of the week. Time to get to work.

Weekend Preview

A quick reminder: solo acoustic show tomorrow in Annapolis, and BLOWOFF Saturday night in DC. Another brilliant poster by Pat.

Currently, there are many protesters walking through my neighborhood. It looks as if there will be a fair amount of non-believers at the procession.

This is one of the most haunting pieces of music I've heard in a while.

Some information on the band.

Purchase the single.

A Look At Tomorrow

Here we go. Shocked by the price tag? DC voted 91% Kerry; don't be so surprised.

STATE VIOLENCE, STATE CONTROL

Kept in line with truncheons
Rifle butts and truncheons
This is state control, this is state control

State control, state control
This is state control

Beaten up behind closed doors
Cracked and bruised ribs, bloody mouth
Cracked and bruised skull, bloody mouth

DOOMSDAY

And now the end, the end is near
It's time to say our last goodbyes

Doomsday, doomsday
It's doomsday, doomsday

Is it reality or just a nightmare
Nightmare, nightmare
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
No escape, no escape
Is it reality or just a nightmare
Nightmare, nightmare

A history of the band.

Purchase the singles compilation.

Weekend In Review

Friday night's show in Boston went quite well. An easy flight up, a good crowd, lots of familiar faces in the crowd. If not for the air conditioner blowing directly onto my neck for 15 minutes (in the middle of the show), it would have been an excellent gig. No big deal, it was beyond my control. A review (with set list) can be found here. The ride back from the gig to my airport hotel was interesting; the Big Dig, as far as I can tell, has solved no traffic problems in Boston. Aesthetically, it's great to have the freeway NOT slicing downtown in two, but the detours were endless. Anyhow, I got to see more of central Boston than ever before. Saturday, the flight home to BWI. American Eagle left my guitars in Boston - there wasn't room on my Embraer commuter jet, so I'm left hoping they will show up later in the day. (They were delivered Sunday, 5:45 AM.)

MAL weekend in DC. A weekend of men from all over the country, dressed in various degrees of leather and fetish gear, wandering around my neighborhood in packs. At the host hotel, there is an exhibition room full of gear for sale - I renamed this area the "agricultural hall". Saw lots of buddies from all over the country, and even bought a few things (don't ask). It's an amazing phenomena, actually; thousands of men, mingling and socializing, with one or two things on their minds. Lots of men approaching me, wanting to introduce themselves, while gazing over my shoulder at the endless parade of other men, always looking for the next better thing. Pretty funny stuff. If one has a sense of humor about these types of gatherings, they can be enjoyable. My evening included a stop at the Eagle (way too crowded) and the host hotel lobby (an abundance of sexy men, proper light, oxygen, and space). Sunday, a return to the hotel for more shopping / sightseeing, followed by a quiet evening away from the dances and contests and competition. (More stories from the ag hall can be found here and here.)

It's brutal cold in DC this week. I don't want to leave my house. I have so lost my ability to deal with the cold weather - this coming from someone who was raised in the tundra of northern New York, and schooled in Minnesota. I must be getting old.

I'm gearing up for Body For Life. It looks like a lot of work, and I don't know if I can survive on the diet they suggest. It's enough food for most people, but not for me.

I'm also gearing up for Body Of Song. I head into the studio next Monday, to begin the clean up of three years of writing and recording.

A quick redirect to the new and improved Jockohomo; in particular, the most excellent and entertaining "source-book".

Finally, a reality TV show I will watch. Last night's debut episode was hot. Where were these two head coaches when I was in high school wrestling class???

A Bunch Of Crap

WHFS-FM is no more. HFS was the station that featured my work over the past 20 years in the DC Metro area. It is now a salsa station.

Tomorrow's show in Boston should be fun, a quick flight up and back. MAL is this weekend, and it's supposed to turn super cold in DC - can't wait to see how everyone dresses for the weather! Loving the splash page photo with my buddies Jason (far left) and Sean (center) in their gear.

Coolfer is becoming a daily read for me. Sidebar link soon.

The first homo porn movie I ever saw. If anyone wants to buy it for me, go ahead. Have it sent to POB 73173, WDC 20056.

Weekend In Review

A very fun time the past few days. Thursday and Friday nights, the usual socializing at the usual spots. I'm starting to get worn down by it, for a number of reasons - the main one being the amount of laundry I have to do to, these clubs are SMOKY! If I go to a club for 30 minutes (I do have a self-imposed 2 hour limit on all clubs, work being the only exception), my jeans smell like an ashtray the next morning.

Saturday, a nice brunch at Annie's, a little shopping for this coming weekend, and back to work for the rest of the day. BLOWOFF was good fun, one of the biggest crowds we've ever had, the word is definitely spreading. I played way more non-dance music than usual, and I think we're going to continue in that direction. I love the house music, but there hasn't been much new stuff of interest lately, the notable exception being "The Weekend", by Michael Gray of Full Intention fame. Watch the video here (RA) or here (WMP), and buy the single here. Best dance song in months - already big in Europe, and it's going to be huge in America. Anyhow, back to BLOWOFF. I busted everyone's hip meters by playing Lindsay Lohan AND Kelly Clarkson back-to-back, and they liked it! Good songs are good songs, no matter what. Set lists are here.

Woke up too early on Sunday, and after a heavy legs workout at the gym, met up with Clickboo for a fun and relaxing afternoon / early evening of shopping, (more) working out, and fine dining. 10 hours of sleep, and the day begins. Have a good week.

Early Anniversary Post

Thanks to all my friends who helped make my 2004 a complete year. I hope for the same good fortune in 2005. If I named names, I would invariably forget one, or somehow sort them in an offensive manner. There are three in particular, and they know who they are, to whom I owe my undying gratitude. There is one who has no clue. We all have one who has no clue. At the beginning, at the end, I wish for everyone to be with the one they love.

Saturday is my one year anniversary of Boblog. Through blogging, I have met several interesting people, and corresponded with hundreds of readers. It's a funny world, the blogosphere; it mirrors the real world, but in a very distorted way. People without faces, words without sound, emotions without scent, what will we think of next?

New Year's Eve was very enjoyable, hosting friends and acquaintances. The rest of the weekend found me sleeping or socializing. I am still hitting the gym twice a day. The current life routine: wake up, eat, write, work out, eat, work, errands, eat, nap, work out, eat, socialize, work, eat, sleep.

So many people have made resolutions the past week, it makes me wonder what they think about the other 51 weeks of the year. Most of the dramatic changes I've made in my life had nothing to do with a calendar. Is it the darkness, the cold and long nights, that inspire people to make the necessary changes in their lives? Is it Dr. Phil, ubitiquitous and syndicated? Is it heartburn, or a wardrobe full of too-snug clothes? The possibility of a great and permanent loss is typically my motivation.

Highlight of 2004: WedROCK DC. Weeks of planning, organizing, fits and starts, the end result being a great evening of entertainment. I'll post the video soon, I promise.

Lowlight of 2004: most of April. A long patch of health problems, most of them stress related. The mind can take the body down so easily.

Postings will be sporadic the next month or so. I have a lot of work ahead of me.
